Five Mile Road Improvement
Continued to April 12, 2010

The Five Mile project began construction on Monday, May 11. The project will widen and rebuild the street to 44-feet to include curbs and a continuous sidewalk on the west side, a 5-ft. bike lane north and shared-use bike lane south on Five Mile Road from Austin Road to Lincoln Road. Additionally, from Stratton Avenue to Lincoln Street, trees will be planted, sewer and water lines, grass swales, a two-way left turn lane will be installed, and a truck climbing lane will be added from Austin Rd. to Stratton Ave. Five Mile Rd. from Austin Rd. to Alberta St. will have two northbound lanes and one southbound lane, Five Mile Rd. from Alberta St. to Lincoln Rd. will have one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. The City Engineering Department has told us that construction will resume next week for completion of our road.  Eller Construction will begin with completing the sidewalks and then we will have street trees planted along the roadway and the bike lane striped.  The neighborhood has also requested that a "fog" line be added along side the road.  More asphalt will be poured as well.  Completion date will be sometime early summer.

The $6.1 million project is being funded by State and Federal sources,
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Stimulus,
and Mitigation and Real Estate Excise Tax.

Please join us, meet your neighbors and share our enthusiasm for living on the Prairie. Our quarterly meetings are held on the first Thursday of September, December, March and June at 6:30 pm at the Schoolhouse on the corner of Five Mile and Strong Road.

Please plan on attending our next meeting:

June 3, 2010

We will have an exciting and insightful presentation on "Complete Streets"
This is a hot topic right now especially since the City has voted to go forward with a draft ordinance for public input on how complete streets can be achieved in Spokane.  We will use our own streets for a comparison of how they will look with and without the complete streets concept.  You won't want to miss it!

We also will have a report on the vision and goals of our Five Mile Loop Trail Committee.  It is not just a loop trail but a series of trails and paths to connect our neighborhoods and connect to other sites on and off the Prairie.  Come and join us and offer your comments.  Our next committee meeting is April 19th at 6:30PM in the Schoolhouse at Five Mile Rd and Strong.  For more information, please contact Scott Englehard at SEnglehard@spokanecounty.org.

Candace Mumm will also have an update on our Neighborhood Plan.  We have our priorities and goals and we are selecting a consultant to help us formalize our plan.  Come hear what is in store for the Prairie!

It will be a packed meeting but I promise to respect our 90 minute time limit.
See you there!
